I built this site for fun, for a challenge, and to help other new parents. Now it also earns me some money from home. I knew nothing about building websites when I set out to do it.
I took a self-study course, and learned how to build an information website from the ground up. The self-study course and all the tools I needed came from Site Build It (SBI). You can get a quick overview of how SBI works from the SBI quick tour.
This course is so good that colleges and universities have started offering the SBI course. And anyone can take it online through SBI eLearning.
But you can still take it the way I did, purely self-study – in your own home, at your own pace, while your baby is sleeping.
The first thing I read from SBI was a free e-book. I learned a lot about how online business works, and started forming an idea of how I might build a website. After poring through the book, I signed up with SBI and worked my way through the SBI Action Guide. The end result was this website.
Since then, the folks at SBI have made their Action Guide available, for free, to anyone with an internet connection. You can read the entire thing (or watch the video version) and really know what you’re considering when you think about building a website and a small business you can pursue from home.
There have been so many work-at-home moms (WAHMs) interested in SBI that there is a new free course just for us - the WAHM Masters Course.
